Supplying Chilean Mining Operations from China

Chile is the world's largest copper producer, accounting for roughly 25% of global output. The Atacama Desert hosts the world's highest concentration of large open-pit copper mines — Escondida, Chuquicamata, Collahuasi, El Teniente, Los Pelambres, Radomiro Tomic, and dozens more. These operations run some of the longest, highest-capacity conveyor systems on earth.

Elephant Rubber (Yexiang Hebei Conveying Machinery Co., Ltd.) manufactures conveyor belts, polyurethane screen panels, and rubber wear components for export to Chilean mining operators, maintenance contractors, and industrial suppliers.

Conveyor Belt Challenges Specific to Chilean Copper Mining

Altitude and extreme temperature variation. Many Chilean copper mines operate at 3,000–5,000 meters above sea level in the Andes. Temperature swings from -20°C overnight to +35°C daytime are common. Belt covers must remain flexible at low temperatures and resist UV degradation at high altitude — standard SBR compounds become brittle in these conditions.

Long overland conveyors with high tensions. Chilean copper operations increasingly use long-distance overland conveyors to move ore from the pit to the concentrator, reducing truck haulage costs. These conveyors — some exceeding 10 kilometers — require high-strength steel cord belts with precise splice design.

Dry, abrasive copper ore. Atacama ore is extremely abrasive. Fine silica-rich material grinds belt covers aggressively. M24 and higher abrasion-resistant covers are standard; some operators specify DIN Z (extra abrasion) covers for the highest wear positions.

Seismic activity. Chile's seismic environment creates vibration stress on belt structures and splice joints. Belt construction quality — particularly splice step geometry and adhesive selection — is critical.

Products We Export to Chile

Steel Cord Conveyor Belts for Overland and In-Pit Conveyors

Our primary product for Chilean copper mine trunk conveyors:

For Escondida-scale operations requiring ST3500+ over 8km+, we supply with full third-party test certification.

EP Fabric Belts for Secondary and Plant Conveyors

For conveyor systems within concentrator plants, crusher buildings, and stockyard operations:

Polyurethane Screen Panels for Mineral Processing

Chilean concentrators use vibrating screens to classify crushed copper ore before SAG and ball mill circuits. PU screen panels offer significant advantages over steel wire in this application:

Rubber Liners for Crusher Chutes and Transfer Points

Copper ore impact wear at primary crusher discharge and transfer chutes is severe. Our rubber lining solutions: - Natural rubber (NR) 60–65 Shore A for maximum impact absorption - Ceramic-backed rubber tiles for extreme combined impact and abrasion - Bolt-on and adhesive-fixed panels; supplied pre-cut to drawing

Key Copper Mines and Their Belt Requirements

Mine Owner Typical Belt Need
Escondida BHP/Rio Tinto/JECO ST2500–ST5000, 1400–2000mm wide
Chuquicamata Codelco Steel cord, EP for in-plant
Collahuasi Anglo American / Glencore Overland steel cord, cold-flexible
El Teniente Codelco Underground FRAS + EP
Los Pelambres Antofagasta Steel cord overland
Centinela Antofagasta EP and steel cord

We supply to operators directly and through Chilean industrial distributors and MRO providers.

Shipping to Chile

Chilean mining supply enters primarily through: - Puerto Antofagasta — closest port to Atacama mine cluster - Puerto Mejillones — bulk mineral port, also receives industrial supply - San Antonio / Valparaíso — for central Chile and El Teniente - Iquique / Arica — northern Chile, near Collahuasi and Doña Inés de Collahuasi

Transit time from Chinese ports to Chilean Pacific ports: approximately 25–35 days.

Language and Commercial Notes

We work with Spanish-speaking industrial distributors and can provide product documentation, certificates, and commercial correspondence in Spanish. Chilean mining procurement teams often require:

We supply all standard trade documentation and can adapt to specific requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions — Chilean Buyers

¿Tienen experiencia con operaciones en el desierto de Atacama? Yes. We supply belts to mining operations in arid, high-altitude environments including comparable conditions in Central Asia and the Middle East. Cover compounds for UV resistance and cold-temperature flexibility are standard options.

What cold-temperature rating do you offer for Andean installations? Our cold-flex cover compounds are rated to -40°C. For the typical Atacama night-to-day temperature range (-15°C to +35°C), standard cold-flex cover is more than sufficient.

Can you supply ST5000 belts? Yes, up to ST5000 from our main production facility. Widths to 2200mm at ST5000. Wider or higher-tension belts are available on inquiry with extended lead time.

Do you work with Chilean distributors or direct only? Both. We supply direct to large mining operators and through Chilean industrial distributors for smaller volumes and emergency stock. Contact us to discuss the right arrangement.
